CHARACTER
Character Name: Alice Elliot
Character Age: 20
Canon: Shadow Hearts
Canon Point: Yuri's Graveyard, after losing conciousness in the Blue Castle fighting a dying Yuri.

History: History

Personality:
"You're really quite a girl, aren't you? In my profession, people with powers of perception like yours are called "Demon Eyes". Of course, in this country, anyone who has powers that others don't understand will be tagged a demon. But your powers seem to be special. You can see things others can't see, and hear what others can't hear.." (ZHUZHEN to ALICE)

Alice Elliot has the lowest amount of sanity points in battle and though it could be easily written out of her personality by saying it's just another part of the interesting battle system but it could also tell one quite a bit about the character themselves. Alice starts out low sanity points, having just dealt with six months of horrible events would leave anybody ready to lose it.

She starts out scared of everything but the time she spent on the road with Yuri and companions to save the world, she found herself losing her fears and becoming more assured of herself. By the time Alice finds Yuri after he disappears for months, she's already ready to sacrifice her soul for the sake of another; for a man she'd met on a train, who saved her life, and gave her a new way to live.

Her low SP does not mean she's a coward, entirely, however, but that she's weak to the world around them. She's the Key of Light, a source of nearly infinite power, and it makes her a target to just about anyone powerful enough to know about the Keys and what they can do with the proper rituals. Most Keys die during or after the ritual, drained of themselves and the power that lies within them, but Alice survives thanks to Koudelka, the Key of Darkness, a woman with great power who gives the young exorcist a piece of her own life to keep her alive.

"But the waves coming off this shrine seem to be a more deeply-rooted, purer kind of malice. It's filled with hatred and lust... And vengeance." (ALICE about a shrine of skulls in a Chinese village)

Alice herself has the ability to sense things others cannot. See things. Hear things. Feel things. She's an incredibly empathetic woman who expresses remorse and sadness even in the face of evil. This ability, as mentioned previously, makes her weak to things like Darkness, Malice, and any strong emotion that's filled a land.

In all likelihood, Alice will have some difficulty adjusting to all the emotions that once touched this place. There's a lot of feelings in Hadriel and Alice feels across time, feels remnants of times long past, the pain of those gone, or those who have suffered.

"Li Li...is in...pain, too. S-somebody...forced her...to come back..." (Alice in regards to Li Li, a spirit that cursed her to die in 24 hours)

Again, she feels things others cannot, even the more powerful and older adepts. She's special and most can tell just by meeting her. She's empathetic, sweet, and willing to do just about anything to help another someone in need. Even her enemies are so rarely, truly her enemies.

She's easy to forgive most transgressions, though the murder of her father will always be a sour spot in her heart, something she accepts but does not forgive. He put himself in danger for her and then died for her. It's not a memory she will ever be able to erase from her mind and the cross she wears around her neck is actually her father's, something that occasionally intervenes when she's in danger (chances are it's likely Alice's abilities interacting with an important item on her person to protect her rather than a magical item on its own).

"Tell me...why do people like Dehuai attempt such awful things?" (ALICE in regards to DEHUAI)

There is a sort of innocence and purity to Alice that makes it hard for her to understand why others hurt one another. She wants nothing more than to believe in the goodness of others, though the beginning of the game shows off her paranoia when it comes to strangers after six months of being chased by a multitude of people and then captured. Later, she takes in a seemingly lost puppy, although she's more than powerful enough to feel that something is off, she ignores it in favor of the small feeble animal—that quickly turns out to be a fake, a Malice filled creature controlled by the adept Dehuai, one of the many people after her.

The children in the very first village Yuri and Alice come across in China, shortly after her rescue, say many odd things about Alice upon their arrival. She does not acknowledge what they say, unwilling to be rude and possibly lose the chance for a place of hospitality, and thanks them for opening the gates despite comments like 'tender' and 'juicy'. She's fully aware of the situation she's in but remains polite. Her enemies often note her politeness, along with her so-called incredible beauty (Hello Miss Mary-Sue).

"What a beautiful young woman you are. Makes me feel good just assuming your form. If your body were to become mine... Hee hee hee..." (a quote from OLGA, an old witch woman with powerful powers of illusion)

This is also something Alice tends to ignore or sigh heavily over because it's something stated so regularly to her. Even Yuri, in the beginning, notes how cute she is, and how he'd like to take a peek beneath her skirt. With Yuri, she's less likely to ignore the comment and more likely to stomp a foot in his direction or roll her eyes at him, a sign that she treats him as a friend rather than a stranger. She can also show annoyance with her own companions as well, more willing to be a little less polite when it comes to those she's become close to.

"Don't be overconfident. First, we should look for Terry's shop." (to ZHUZHEN when they first arrive in Bistritz)

She's a careful, mindful young woman. She steps carefully and tends to have a better perception than her companions, feeling things out before she moves forward. She tends to warn when something feels off or when someone is watching them but there's often little her or her companions can do but ready themselves.

"Yuri! Your soul is... fading." (ALICE to YURI as he rushes to fuse with the Seraphic Radiance, a god his own father fell to.)

When Yuri disappears, falling to the Seraphic Radiance and then destroying Shanghai in a massive fire (this is meant to show that Dehuai, and in part, Yuri, were the reason for the Great Fire of Shangai and its partial destruction [though it should be noted that the game takes place in 1914-1915 and takes some liberties with our historical timeline despite most events lining up, the original fire that burned over a thousand homes down actually occurred in 1894]).

Despite being unable to 'feel' him any longer, Alice remains certain he still lives, something in her gut urging her to keep hope alive. For six long months, she searches for him all the while maintaining an exorcist practice with Zhuzhen and searching for Robert Bacon, the man who destroyed everything she's known.

Her and her companions settle for a time in Prague, dealing with a variety of both supernatural and non-supernatural cases. Zhuzhen reminds her every time they return that Yuri is out there somewhere because she feels it in her gut, helping her keep her own hopes alive.

"Who's here? I know you're watching! Show yourself!" (ALICE to INVISIBLE KEITH)

She even catches note of Keith, a vampire with the ability to become invisible, while it takes Zhuzhen (an adept with great power and a good friend) some time to notice himself. She's quick to call Keith out and catch him on multiple occasions before Zhuzhen and her finally catch him in the throne room, eventually recruiting him, finding them fascinating (and the fact that monsters are messing with the people of the city below his castle is a big no-no).

It is only after dealing with Bistritz's problem (a desperate mayor who wants to bang someone else's wife and turns himself into a dog monster because why not) that Keith reveals to Alice and Zhuzhen that he requires their help next. Something has made its home at the very top of his castle. Or rather, someone. Both Alice and Zhuzhen agree that it might be Yuri.

It is only after making it to the top of the Blue Castle and fighting Yuri does Alice lose consciousness. This is the point in canon she is taken from, which will leave her uncertain and worried, but she'll put herself to work in Hadriel knowing there's little she can do at the moment other than worry.

"As the warlock said in the end... Even if an "age of winter" comes bringing the harshest hardships... I intend to live on with my new family." (ALICE post-good ending)

For all that she's gone through, Alice cherishes the journey she's been on and the people she's met, saved, and lost. And that's Alice: a young woman who has faced unimaginable hardship and still manages to find the light in the darkness.

Abilities:
Alice Elliot is known as the Key of Light, a human born with a nearly fountainless amount of energy, hers being that of Light. She's also called a 'Demon's Eyes', meaning she can see, feel, and hear things that others cannot. She's not just incredibly empathetic but she can feel the pain of things long past, of battles, of Malice. She's not so used to her abilities to point out too many specific things or to see what's happened in the past, but she can feel the sores that are left behind even after the person and things are long gone.

Other than her strong sixth sense, at this point in the game, she's a skilled healer, despite the small handful of spells she retains. At this point, she's capable of only five spells in battle.

Cure, which heals 100 HPs of a single party member.
Holy Edge, which adds Light to any weapon for a short time.
Blessed Light, which does Light class damage to a single enemy.
Wish, which cures all status ailments aside from Unconsciousness and Berserk.
Gospel, which raises target's physical and special defense for 5 turns.

As she grows in Hadriel, she will learn the rest of her abilities as time goes on.

Flaws:
Alice's flaws rely greatly on her idea of self-sacrifice for the ones she loves. She's selfish and the choice she makes to take on Yuri's curse, without his knowledge, without ever letting him know, shows off just how selfish she can be. It's not such a negative selfishness, a selfishness born from love, but it's a selfishness all the same. Other than that, there is little that is chaotic or evil about her, though she is known to draw those things to her.

SAMPLES
Action Log Sample:

The ride to Bistritz was an uneasy one, a several days journey on foot. Zhuzhen and her had long since become comfortable with walking to most of the haunted locations people ask them to exorcize, carriages either asking for an outright ridiculous sum or too afraid to lose their horses to the monsters that come at night.

There were few bumps along the way, a giant spider here, a zombie there, but very few real things that would take down either Alice or Zhuzhen, both more than capable now of dealing with just about any horrific thing that looks their way.

They stop only once to rest, knowing that getting to the small village was of the utmost importance, especially after Terry's murder. Alice bites into a piece of dry bread, leaning in towards the fire. She and her father had quiet moments like this, on their way to the next clue for who was after her and why exactly.

"...piece of cake." Alice pulls her eyes from the flames, watching the old man with a sparkle in her clear blue eyes. He was always confident, always eager, like a man still in his prime (though the teas and herbal remedies he consumed often lead her to believe he had some issues here and there).

"The last one was but I have a bad feeling about this, Zhuzhen," She informs him, rubbing a thumb across the rough surface of the bread. Parts of it crumble away, landing on the taffeta of her skirt,"Something just tells me we should tread with caution."

And the old man laughs. She finds herself smiling, too, despite the nugget worry nestled in her belly, filling it instead of the bread and cheese she brought out to eat.

"I won't let my guard down, don't you worry yourself." He's been doing such acts much longer than she has, he did so often alone. She releases the worry from her mind a moment, giving in to a peaceful, quiet moment with her good friend with a soft nod of agreement. It may not give her total peace of mind (with Yuri gone, nothing does) but it helps for the moment.

Perhaps it shall be a piece of cake, but she has a feeling it will be more than that. A feeling that won't leave her be. Maybe, just maybe, he'll be there. She will always hope.
